Allurion Swallowable Gastric Balloon (primary implantation)

What will happen during your participation in the Allurion weight loss program?

Before implantation – you will have a direct or remote consultations with a physician who will carry out balloon implantation and a physician nutritionist.

Implantation (Month 1 to 4) – you will have a procedure done, which will take 15 minutes:

• The patient swallows a capsule containing the gastric balloon with the attached thin catheter. No surgery, endoscopy or anaesthesia are required for the procedure.

• The patient undergoes X-ray examination to confirm that the capsule is located in the appropriate location in the stomach, subsequently the balloon is filled in with 550 ml of liquid; and then the second X-ray examination is carried out to confirm that the inflated balloon is in the right position. The balloon shall stay in your stomach for 4 months.

• The balloon partially fills the stomach cavity providing the feeling of fullness even consuming reduced servings of food.

• During the further 4 months, the patient receives 3 more consultations with the physician nutritionist, aiming to facilitate the compliance with newly established dietary habits.

• After about 4 weeks, the balloon deflates and is evacuated naturally through the gastrointestinal tract without any additional procedure.

Formation of new dietary habits and behavioural style is further continued.

At the beginning of the treatment each patient is supplied with a smart watch and a wireless smart scale; these devices transmit all data to the physician. Thus, the physician has a possibility for real-time result monitoring as well as to provide advices and recommendations.

Patients participating in the program experience 10-15 % average total body weight loss. The procedure can be repeated, if necessary.
