Breast implants replacement
You can enjoy the results of breast augmentation using the implants for many years; However, certain changes in your body such as pregnancy and breastfeeding, sudden weight loss and ageing can affect the appearance of breasts. The implants itself can wear with time and integrate with the body tissues which can change the shape of breast. These changes may not be very noticeable, therefore it is very important to come at least once per year to check your breasts. If changes are found and appearance of breasts is not acceptable a breast implant replacement surgery can be done. This surgery is also chosen by the patients, who after some time desire to have bigger breasts.
How the surgery is performed?
The incision is usually made in the same place as for implant insertion. In certain cases, when the altered implant capsule should be removed the incision can be longer. This is discussed with the patient before a surgery during a consultation with a surgeon. Usually breast implant replacement surgery is not very complex as the implant bed already exists. After successful removal of the old implants the new implants are inserted. In certain cases breast implant replacement surgery can be done together with breast lift surgery: when elasticity of breast tissues is lost and breast sagging developed, or when the new implants are smaller than those removed.
Postoperative period
- Breast swelling can last up to3-4 weeks;
- To avoid possible implant dislocation avoid lifting your arms above the head for 3-4 weeks after the surgery;
- A special post-surgical bra should worn for 6 weeks after the surgery;
- Active physical activities and sports should be avoided for about 2 -3 months after the surgery.
- It is recommended to abstain from the direct sunbathing and solarium during the first year after the surgery to avoid scar discolouration;
