Knee Osteoplasty
Osteoplasty – is a surgery done to restore bone integrity using a bone graft or other material. Changes in bone integrity can occur as a result of trauma or disease. During an osteoplasty surgery a bone defect is filled in and during the post-surgical period the bone tissue is restored by means of bone regeneration.
During the surgery
The surgery is carried out under the local or general anaesthesia. During osteoplasty a bone tissue taken from the patient (autograft) is commonly used, however, other materials or their combinations can also be used (with platelet rich plasma, antibiotics and biological substances facilitating bone regeneration, etc.). After the preparation of a surgical field with antiseptic solutions incisions are made at the projection of injured bone or joint as well as in other site (a donor site, which will be used to obtain a bone tissue). At the end of surgery, the surgical wounds are sutured, however, some drains can be left and sterile dressings are applied.
After the surgery
After the surgery cold application can be used, as well as symptomatic treatment with analgesics or antibiotic prophylaxis is administered, in some cases the fluids generated in the tissues during the surgery can be aspirated using a syringe.
